How to Put Mother's Day (or Father's day, or...) to Use for Your Nonprofit
There's no better way for your organization to get your audience's attention (and sometimes the media's attention, too) than hooking into what's happening in the news. Because your audiences are already thinking about these issues, and likely to be more interested in what your nonprofit has to say.
Several nonprofits hooked into Mother's Day in effective ways. Here are a few of my favorites:
- Research release -- The Pew Research Center for the People and the Press released its findings on Motherhood Today
- Fundraising -- Once upon a Pedestal (as all mothers should be), an art and art pedestal fundraiser for the Boulder Public Library, presented in conjunction with a local gallery
- Membership -- Mothers & More's Making a Connection Mother's Day campaign
- Advocacy -- NOW (National Organization for Women') Mothers Matter and Caregivers Count petition.
Father's Day is around the corner. How can you capitalize on that focus, or a major news story, to generate more attention for your organization, programs and services?

Father's Day Media Attention Tip
How about a survey of your non profit that shows number of dad's that volunteer versus say single males
Then tie in say a father's day celebration for your Dad volunteers because you have so many Dads that volunteer or if numbers are low kick off a Father's Day membership drive to try an encourage more dads to volunteer.
